Series Summary
In the first test Australia batted first and were unable to play the Indian spinners. After India rolled out the Australians, they scored 400 runs in their first innings and made a good lead of 223 runs. Australia came to bat in the second innings, again got all on low score. India comfortably won the first match of the series by a huge margin.
Second match Australia show some fight back and did some good batting. Australians also bowled out India on 262 runs. But Indian made a comeback in the second innings of Australia and ended their innings on 113 runs. India comfortably chase down the target and won the match by 6 wickets.
Third match was the complete turn around for India, Australia bow out India on 109 runs and while batting took 88 runs lead over India. Again India came to bat in their second innings but Australia never gave them a chance to recover and all out at 163 runs. Australia easily secured their first win in the series by 9 wickets.
Fourth Test match was a draw but a good boost for the Australian unit. They scored above 600 runs including both innings. India scored 570 runs in single innings.

The Border Gavaskar trophy is named after two former captains Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar. The first test match played in the series was a single test match in 1996-97 at ‘Feroz Shah Kotla Ground’. India won the first test by 7 wickets under Sachin Tendulakar’s captaincy. Just after a year Australia visited India looking for the first win, but again lost the series, this time by 2-1.
